About Our Facilitators-Kansas Maker Space Collective
Jim Correll
In his work as a business coach, entrepreneur mentor and the director of Fab Lab ICC and the Successful Entrepreneur Program at Independence (KS) Community College, Jim Correll taught aspiring entrepreneurs to explore new paths for solving the world’s problems through innovation, creativity, trial and error.
Decades in the making, Jim’s multi-faceted career recently culminated in the launch of Correll Coaching, a service offering tested and trusted business advice to entrepreneurs, start-up founders, dreamers and doers in a collaborative, peer-helping-peer model.
The Kansas Maker Space Collective is another avenue by which Jim can share the depth and breadth of his diverse experience in the lane of entrepreneurship development.
Tim Haynes
Working alongside Jim as Fab Lab ICC manager for nine years was the other half of the dynamic duo, Tim Haynes. Tim’s role at the lab was to manage daily operations, machinery maintenance, user training and support. Tim offers a broad and miscellaneous skillset in terms of hands-on fabrication applications and an even broader world view and passion for learning without limits and the constraints of conventional “that’s-the-way-we’ve-always-done-it” thinking.
Outside of his day job in the manufacturing industry, Tim owns his own bicycle repair business, a design business, volunteers for community beautification and preservation efforts and is a busy husband and father of four young children. He has a master’s degree in Sustainable Communities from Northern Arizona University and a bachelor’s degree in International Studies, French and German from Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas. He also volunteers as a refugee support coordinator for Christliche Dienste E.V. based in Germany.
Laura Schaid
Currently has worked as Program Developer for Fab Lab ICC since 2018, responsible for planning classes and events; working with instructors; engaging with the community and its schools; researching grant opportunities; managing financials; and assisting lab members.
A long-time employee of Independence Community College, Laura has previously worked as the college’s Career and Technical Education Coordinator, Instructional Coordinator and Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Instruction, among other roles.
Laura brings a wealth of knowledge in technical applications, superior organizational skills and expansive operational know-how related to maker space equipment and technology. Moreover, Laura is an essential “grounding” force in perfect complement to the Collective’s team of (sometimes) “out-there” thinkers.
Lea Ann Seiler
The “outsider” of the team, Lea Ann works professionally for the Network Kansas organization as the Manager, Entrepreneurship, Southwest Region. A resident of Jetmore, Kansas, she previously served as the Hodgeman County Economic Development Director for 15 years.
She was introduced to Fab Lab ICC and drank the Kool-Aid at an early Maker Space Community Boot Camp offered in Independence, then returned to her home county on fire with ideas for implementing a local maker space.
Her experience includes serving as an Ice House/Entrepreneurial Mindset course facilitator; Certified Destination Creation Facilitator; Hodgeman County Maker Space Creator; Growing Rural Business Completer; Hodeman County Maker Camp, Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge and Acton Children’s Business Fair Director; and a CDBG Grant Administrator.
Lea Ann is passionate about her role in helping small communities thrive and is recognized as a respected and influential leader throughout Southwest Kansas.
